Green zebra with striping tape

You haven't missed that this month also means Depression Awareness Month? And that we are a bunch of people talking about depression and showing green polishes? And that the initiator of this "United in Green" is Karin at Vacker&Underbar?

Today is the forth green day and I've written a lot of things concerning depression and I'll try to keep it shorter today. I've read that statistics shows that wealthier countries has a higher rate of depressed inhabitants than those in midde- to low-class countries. (if it's possible to give a whole country just one label) Are rich people more often depressed or is it because rich people have a bigger opportunity to actually search for help? When speaking about middle and low class countries it's often also combined with perhaps lower education, less capability to read and information flow and research about depression is perhaps lower? Here in Sweden health care is free, but how is it in other countries, is it free for everyone no matter the age to search for help? Does "rich people" have more time to "feel" how they actually feel? Depending on religion and culture, is it more legit to feel down in some countries and more taboo in other? I'm not saying that anything is in a certain way, I would just like to hear if you got any thoughts and/or experiences about this?

Here I have a nail art that I'm not that content about. I had been wearing Ninja Polish - Sunny Floam (click the link for full review) for a while and somehow I spilled acetone over nail art striping tape. I knew that when it dried the glue in the tape would be useless so I decided to just try wrap it around my nails randomly to at least see if the result would be cool. It looks a bit graphical and perhaps a bit zebra stripes like. Wish I had more tape so I could have done it to all nails but this is what I had.

Polises used:
Ninja Polish - Sunny Floam
Nordic Cap - NP12

  5. WOW! I didn't realize it was Depression Awareness Month. I have suffered from depression in the past and so did my husband. Here in the US we are currently being "required" to have healthcare or face tax penalties so I think that the opportunity for people suffering depression either rich or poor (in theory) should have access to treatment depending on the quality of said required health insurance. I don't think that depression discriminates but I think you're on to something when you mentioned the lack of access to quality treatment by those less fortunate.

    1. Thank you for your comment! I didn't know how it was like that in the US. Great to hear that not only the rich is able to get help. I also think it's good that these things are discussed in general, true or not, depression needs the attention. :)

  7. Hi Gelic! You have a great manicure!
Depresion is a hard illness. I think the wealthier countries have more depression because in theory (this is something that comes from a sociologist called Durkheim in the 19th century) poverty is a "protector" from psychic illnesses like depression, though he was studying more about suicide and depression does not always lead to suicide thankfully!
But nowadays it's difficult to say. It is possible to believe that poor people are frequently struggling with so many problems to actually survive, and depression seems to be an illness that involves second level thoughts, that means the thought about thinking about oneself. Something you have very little time to think about when you need to find to eat for your children. This also means that being engaged with an important life or death cause is a great cure for depression.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts! :D You have also pointed out something important about this! I agree with you that it seems like when we've got the time to actually really feel how we feel inside and we have no surviving problems like getting food and protect children we get more depressed. It's like if we need to have "instinctual meaning" in our life to be able to feel happier.
