31DC2013 Day 29; Troll doll nail art

Today's it's inspired by the supernatural and when I thought about it I figured it would be fun to do something inspired by trolls or goblins (one of my favorite books when growing up and being a child was about friendly trolls which lived in the forest). The trolls I've decided to recreate on my nails is a popular  toy from the 90's, the troll dolls which had colorful hair and strangely was always naked? Anyhow, I freehanded the whole thing and used a whole bunch of polishes for this. I think that the trolls look a bit "fugly", but then again the toys where that too. AND another thing.. since it Sunday and Nail Art Sunday have a theme this week I've prepared another nail art post that I'll schedule for later today >LINK here<, so come back later if you want to see that too. :)

Below I tried  them in matte too.. Maybe they looks better in matte but your seeing both versions. The matte polish I've used is HM matte top coat.

Polishes used:
Jordana Pop Art - Black Mark
Sure Promise (blue)
Sure Promise (purple)
China Glaze - Hanging In The Balance

L.A. Colors Art Deco - Sky Blue
Sally Hansen - Sweet Tulip
Kleancolor - Pastel Orange
Nordic Cap - NP12
Nordic Cap NP13
Sure Promise ( sheer brown beige)

Do you recognize these trolls? Have you ever played with troll dolls or perhaps given them to your own children? Did you prefer the shiny or matte version? :)

    1. Tack!

    1. Hi Alice! Yea, they looked kinda freaky with that face which both long young and old in the same time, and the nudeness.. I imagine that the colorful hair helped making them popular. :)
      And thank's! :D

    1. Tack tack!

:P haha minnerna!

  11. trolls are soooooooooo scandinavian thing! =)

btw, they weren't always naked! I still have about 40 of this dolls in my closet - and they are all in different clothes! I even have 1 vampire troll =)

they're very recognizeable on your nails! looks so sweet and funny =)
but, this time, I think that shiny version is better =)

    1. Haha, yes, they sure are! I guess that there's a lot of folklore about them in scandinavian history, especially before christianity came..

And you're correct, I remember having some trolls with clothing too, but weirdly many of them where naked. haha, at least here in sweden! ;) Haha, and the vampire troll is hilariously fun.. haha :D

And thank you! Also fun to hear which one you preferred, I often show both the matte and shiny version since people might like or prefer differently :D

    2. I have some fridge magnets with trolls - from Finland. they look very cute =)

I'd show this doll, but... I'm collector kind of human, so it almost imposible to find something in my closet =)))))))))))
but yeah, I remember - small trolls were naked mostly...

yes, shiny and matte looks different... sometime one better, sometime the other. it's nice to see both versions of the design =)

    3. How cool, my fridge have no magnets at all..lol :D

I guess that I'm also a collector/hoarder..the nail polish is just one example.. I also love clothing, jeweleries, shoes and so on..

I also agree with you, that was my thought of it. As you say, sometime one is better and another time another one. :D
